When a deadly virus surfaces in the small, wealthy town of Hidden Valley, British Columbia, Dr. Kate Morrison and Sergeant Andy Wyles work together to uncover the source of the outbreak. As the two women navigate their new relationship, Kate and Andy are also forced to navigate a highly political and increasingly panicked community. Still bearing the scars of her recent abduction, Kate is driven to discover how this virus attacks her critically ill patients while Andy investigates suspicions of bioterrorism. As the death count rises, Kate struggles with a crushing sense of helplessness, the pressure to keep the residents of Hidden Valley alive, and Andy's growing concern that maybe Kate hasn't yet dealt with her troubled past.

A Dr. Kate Morrison novel of romantic intrigue.

A great follow up to Webb's "Trigger!"

"Pathogen" is an extremely intelligent story with an equal intelligent plot, and character dynamic. Webb's impressive character creations, with both leading characters as well as supporting ones, are continued in this sequel where she is able to capture the depth of raw emotion. "Pathogen" allows the reader to get a deeper look into both Sergeant Andy Wells, and Dr. Kate Morrison personal lives, proving every person has multiple sides to their existence; the strong, silent officer has an open heart for both her family and Kate, and shares that with the reader. The mentally intelligent Dr. Morrison has a wall around her heart protecting her and keeping Wells at a distance. These leading characters are what keeps this reader hooked!

The plot, of this particular story, is also something to commend the writer for. Webb has once again created a medical mystery that coincidence with extensive scientific and medical research which only boosts the story as a whole. Well done!

Finally, the ending to the story was inevitable, enjoyable, and extremely frustrating all rolled into one. As a whole, I was happy to see a conclusion which ended with me wanting more, (I am a sucker for cliffhangers!) However, as much as I enjoyed the ending, the build up to it seemed a bit rushed. The author created a brilliant climax to the story and then without warning, it ended. Even with my predictions on the ending coming true, I would have liked to see more build up to the epic conclusion. Due to this, and only this, did I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I do not wish to detour interested readers away from this book due to my one criticism, I highly recommend this book and this trilogy!!

Pathogen (Audible Audio Edition) Jessica Webb Ruby Rivers Bold Strokes Books Inc Books Reviews

This is a wonderfully written book that picks up where Trigger left off. Kate and Andy's chemistry is off the charts, and Ms. Webb has added an interesting and compelling cast of supporting characters. If you enjoy smartly written dialogue with strong female leads this book is for you. Personally I cannot wait for the third book in this series!
Great second installment. Fascinating to watch Kate through this story. The author does a wonderful job developing her characters and their relationship. Not a typical romance, as it is somewhat in the background, but you don't have any doubt about their feelings. The ending makes one anxious for the next installment!
Every page kept me rivered. Very good character development. I really loved all of the data-gathering and analysis to solve both the medical and law-enforcement sides of the problem. All of the interactions between characters were especially satisfying and contributed a great deal to the overall atmosphere of the story.

I highly recommend both of Ms. Webb's novels.
"Pathogen" is a great sequel to "Trigger". I had a hard time being away from the book, it kept pulling me back to read it. Great story line and the pulling in or the medical groups and disease prevention made everything conceivable. Kate and Andy's relationship has a lot of wrinkle to iron out and they take some time to figure some of them out, but new ones develop. It was a great mystery with death and the spooky Dr. Kellar.
I loved book one, and the second one was great until the end. I understand marketing, but when your forced to read the next one because the ending of this one leaves you hanging and of course who knows how long it will take to see the next one.
A frightening and fascinating story. The medical terms and facts are understandable and fortunately not too technical. The construction of the story was captivating and the pace never slows down. I thought I had it all figured out but the conclusion was not what I expected. Andy's love and protection of her loved one was heart warming. She is without a doubt my favorite character. Kate's exhausting battle against this disease took a toll on her. She became an emotional mess and lost it. The story is beautifully written but the romance in this installment takes a back seat. The ending was not how I wanted it to end and that was a bit disappointing. Hopefully the author makes up for that in the next part.
I liked this book a lot. It was a fantastic follow up to the first book. The content, story line and characters were beautifully weaved together with skilled nuance. This series is good. Refreshingly excellent.

Warning possible spoilers

That being said, I view the author and reader relationship as a special one. The reader (me) in entrusting my imagination in the hands of the author. I trust they won't betray my willingness to suspend reality and jump into their world and make friends (and enemies) with the characters I'm introduced to. But when an author ends a story cheaply with a "to be continued" cliff hanger it feels like a blatant disrespect of my trust.

The ending left a terrible taste in my mouth which will make me think twice about buying from this author again... Which is sad, because the author is clearly a brilliant writer -- I just don't know if my imagination is safe in her hands.
